2 teenage boys arrested after 16-year-old boy fatally shot in Parkdale

Two teenage boys have been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old boy in Toronto’s Parkdale neighborhood.

According to police, the incident occurred on Monday evening at around 9:30 p.m. in the area of Queen Street West and Jameson Avenue. The victim, who has been identified as Jonathan Davis, was found with life-threatening injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Following an investigation, two 17-year-old boys were taken into custody on Tuesday and have been charged with first-degree murder. Their identities cannot be revealed due to their age.

The motive behind the shooting is still under investigation, but police believe it may be gang-related. They are urging anyone with information to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigation.

This tragic incident has left the community in shock and mourning. Davis was described as a kind and friendly teenager who was loved by many. A makeshift memorial has been set up at the scene of the shooting, with friends and family leaving flowers and messages in his memory.

The Toronto District School Board has also released a statement expressing their condolences and offering support to students and staff at Davis’ school.

This is not the first time that gun violence has claimed the life of a young person in Toronto. In 2020, there were 462 shootings in the city, resulting in 40 deaths. The issue of gun violence has been a growing concern for residents and officials, with calls for stricter gun control laws and increased community support to address the root causes of violence.

As the investigation into Davis’ death continues, the community is left to mourn the loss of a young life and grapple with the ongoing issue of gun violence in the city.
