Former BC Green Party leader Andrew Weaver slams Premier David Eby, praises Conservatives' John Rustad

Former BC Green Party leader Andrew Weaver has publicly criticized Premier David Eby while praising Conservative MLA John Rustad. In a recent statement, Weaver slammed Eby for his handling of the province’s housing crisis and commended Rustad for his efforts in addressing the issue.

Weaver, who stepped down as leader of the BC Greens in 2020, accused Eby of failing to take decisive action to address the housing crisis, which has left many British Columbians struggling to find affordable housing. He also criticized Eby for not consulting with other parties, including the BC Greens, on potential solutions.

On the other hand, Weaver praised Rustad for his work as the opposition critic for housing and municipal affairs. He commended Rustad for his “thoughtful and evidence-based approach” to tackling the housing crisis and for actively seeking input from all parties.

Weaver’s comments come as the BC NDP government faces mounting pressure to address the province’s housing crisis, which has been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. The BC Liberals have also been vocal in their criticism of the government’s handling of the issue.

In response to Weaver’s statements, Premier Eby defended his government’s actions, stating that they have implemented various measures to address the housing crisis, including the introduction of a speculation and vacancy tax and the creation of a task force to address money laundering in the real estate market.

Meanwhile, Rustad expressed gratitude for Weaver’s support and stated that he is committed to working with all parties to find solutions to the housing crisis.

The BC Green Party has yet to comment on Weaver’s statements. However, Weaver’s public criticism of the BC NDP government and praise for the BC Liberals has raised questions about his political allegiances and potential future alliances.

As the housing crisis continues to be a pressing issue in British Columbia, it remains to be seen how the government will respond to Weaver’s criticisms and whether they will work with all parties to find a solution.
