'We want justice for our daughter': Family of Jordyn Reimer disappointed by province not ordering independent review

The family of Jordyn Reimer, a young woman who tragically lost her life in a car accident, is speaking out about their disappointment with the provincial government’s decision not to order an independent review of the case.

“We want justice for our daughter,” said Jordyn’s parents, who have been advocating for an independent review since her death in 2019. “We feel like our voices are not being heard and that the government is not taking our concerns seriously.”

Jordyn, 21, was a passenger in a vehicle that collided with a semi-truck on Highway 59 near Winnipeg. The driver of the vehicle, who was also killed in the crash, was found to have a blood alcohol level over the legal limit.

The family believes that there were errors made in the investigation and that the driver’s blood alcohol level may have been inaccurate. They have been pushing for an independent review to ensure that all aspects of the case were thoroughly examined.

However, the provincial government has stated that they do not see the need for an independent review, as the case was already reviewed by the Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) and the Crown prosecutor’s office.

“We understand that the IIU and the Crown prosecutor’s office have reviewed the case, but we still have concerns about the accuracy of the investigation and the handling of evidence,” said Jordyn’s parents.

They also expressed frustration with the lack of communication from the government, stating that they have not received any updates or information about the case.

“We just want answers and closure,” said Jordyn’s parents. “We want to make sure that no other family has to go through what we have gone through.”

The family is now considering legal action to push for an independent review and to hold those responsible for any errors accountable.

“We will not stop fighting for justice for our daughter,” said Jordyn’s parents. “We hope that the government will reconsider their decision and order an independent review to ensure that all aspects of the case are thoroughly examined.”
