Toronto Blue Jays catcher Danny Jansen and outfielder Spencer Horwitz both hit home runs, while pitcher Kevin Gausman delivered a strong performance on the mound, leading the Blue Jays to a 5-3 victory over the San Francisco Giants.
Jansen’s home run came in the second inning, giving the Blue Jays an early lead. Horwitz followed suit in the fourth inning, extending the lead to 3-0. Gausman, who was acquired by the Blue Jays in a trade with the Baltimore Orioles earlier this month, allowed only two hits and struck out eight batters in six innings.
The Giants attempted a comeback in the seventh inning, scoring three runs off of Blue Jays reliever Tim Mayza. However, the Blue Jays’ bullpen held strong, with Jordan Romano and Rafael Dolis shutting down the Giants in the eighth and ninth innings, respectively.
This win marks the Blue Jays’ fourth consecutive victory and improves their record to 44-39. The Giants, on the other hand, fall to 50-32.
The Blue Jays will look to continue their winning streak as they face the Giants in the second game of the series on Saturday.
