Potential for baseball-sized hail as severe thunderstorm warnings hit Manitoba

Severe thunderstorm warnings have been issued for parts of Manitoba, with the potential for baseball-sized hail to hit the province.

According to Environment Canada, the warnings are in effect for areas including Dauphin, Minnedosa, and Riding Mountain National Park. These areas could experience strong winds, heavy rain, and large hailstones.

Residents are advised to take precautions and seek shelter if necessary. The severe weather could cause damage to buildings, vehicles, and trees.

Environment Canada also warns that the hail could pose a danger to livestock and pets, and advises farmers to take necessary precautions to protect their animals.

The warnings come as a result of a low-pressure system moving through the province, bringing with it the potential for severe weather. The system is expected to pass through the province by late afternoon or early evening.

In addition to the severe thunderstorm warnings, a tornado watch has been issued for parts of southern Manitoba, including the city of Winnipeg. Residents in these areas are advised to monitor the weather closely and be prepared to take shelter if necessary.

This is not the first time Manitoba has experienced severe weather this summer. In July, a tornado touched down near Virden, causing significant damage to homes and buildings.

Environment Canada reminds residents to stay informed and be prepared for severe weather by having an emergency kit and an emergency plan in place.

As the low-pressure system moves through the province, it is important for residents to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions to stay safe. Stay tuned to local weather updates and follow any instructions from authorities.
