Peel Regional Police have made a major breakthrough in their ongoing firearms investigation, seizing a total of 71 firearms from various locations.
According to authorities, the investigation began in January 2021 and focused on the illegal possession and trafficking of firearms in the Peel region. The investigation was carried out by the Guns and Gangs Unit, with assistance from the Tactical and Rescue Unit and the Criminal Investigation Bureau.
During the course of the investigation, police executed multiple search warrants at various locations in Peel, resulting in the seizure of 71 firearms. These firearms included handguns, rifles, and shotguns, as well as a large quantity of ammunition.
In addition to the firearms, police also seized a significant amount of cash and drugs, including cocaine, fentanyl, and methamphetamine. The estimated street value of the drugs seized is approximately $1.5 million.
Peel Regional Police Chief Nishan Duraiappah praised the efforts of the officers involved in the investigation, stating, “This is a significant seizure that will undoubtedly make our community safer. The illegal possession and trafficking of firearms is a serious threat to public safety and we will continue to work tirelessly to combat it.”
