Newfoundland Premier Andrew Furey has announced that the crew members of a missing fishing boat have been found alive. The news comes after an extensive search and rescue operation that lasted over 30 hours.
The fishing vessel, named the “Sarah Anne,” had been reported missing on Saturday morning after failing to return to port in St. Mary’s Bay. The boat was carrying five crew members, all of whom were feared to be in danger due to the harsh weather conditions in the area.
Premier Furey expressed his relief and gratitude upon hearing the news of the crew’s rescue. He stated, “I am incredibly thankful to the brave individuals who risked their own safety to search for and rescue these fishermen. Their dedication and hard work have resulted in a successful outcome, and we are all grateful for their efforts.”
The search and rescue operation involved multiple agencies, including the Canadian Coast Guard, the Royal Canadian Air Force, and local fishermen. Despite challenging weather conditions, the teams were able to locate the missing vessel and its crew members.
According to Premier Furey, all five crew members have been safely transported to shore and are currently receiving medical attention. He also mentioned that the cause of the boat’s disappearance is still under investigation.
The Premier also took the opportunity to remind all fishermen to prioritize safety and to always be prepared for unexpected situations while out at sea. He stated, “This incident serves as a reminder of the dangers that come with the fishing industry, and we must always prioritize the safety of our fishermen.”
The news of the crew’s rescue has brought a sense of relief and joy to the community of St. Mary’s Bay and the entire province of Newfoundland. Premier Furey concluded by thanking everyone involved in the search and rescue operation and sending his thoughts and prayers to the crew members and their families.
