Bucks sign former Toronto Raptors guard Gary Trent Jr.

The Milwaukee Bucks have made a major move in the NBA free agency by signing former Toronto Raptors guard Gary Trent Jr. The 22-year-old shooting guard has agreed to a three-year, $54 million contract with the Bucks, according to sources.

Trent Jr. was acquired by the Raptors in a trade with the Portland Trail Blazers in March 2021. He quickly made an impact on the team, averaging 16.2 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game in 17 regular-season games with the Raptors. He also played a key role in the team’s playoff run, averaging 16.6 points per game in the first round against the Washington Wizards.

The Bucks were in need of a shooting guard after losing Bryn Forbes in free agency and trading away Donte DiVincenzo. Trent Jr. brings a strong offensive presence to the team, shooting 39.7% from the three-point line last season.

Bucks general manager Jon Horst expressed his excitement about the signing, stating, “Gary is a talented young player who fits our style of play and brings a high level of energy and competitiveness to the team. We believe he will be a valuable addition to our roster and help us continue to compete for a championship.”

Trent Jr. also took to social media to share his excitement about joining the Bucks, saying, “I’m grateful for the opportunity to join such a talented and competitive team. Can’t wait to get to work and help bring a championship to Milwaukee.”

The signing of Trent Jr. is a significant move for the Bucks as they look to defend their NBA title next season. With his youth, talent, and potential, he is expected to play a crucial role in the team’s success. Fans will have to wait and see how he will fit in with the Bucks’ star players, including Giannis Antetokounmpo and Khris Middleton, but one thing is for sure, Trent Jr. is ready to make an impact on his new team.
