Calgary Shortening Hours of Jasper Wildfire Reception Centre
The city of Calgary has announced that it will be shortening the hours of operation for the Jasper Wildfire Reception Centre. This decision comes as a response to the ongoing wildfire situation in the province of Alberta.
The reception centre, located at the Calgary Emergency Operations Centre, has been providing support and assistance to evacuees from the Jasper wildfire since it began on July 1st. However, with the fire still raging and the number of evacuees decreasing, the city has decided to adjust the centre’s hours of operation.
Starting on July 15th, the centre will be open from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm, instead of its previous 24-hour operation. This change will allow staff to have a more structured work schedule and ensure that they are well-rested and able to provide the best possible support to evacuees.
The city has also stated that the reduced hours will not affect the level of support and services provided to evacuees. The centre will continue to offer essential services such as registration, accommodation, and food services during its operating hours.
In addition, the city has assured that the decision to shorten the hours was made in consultation with the Alberta Emergency Management Agency and other partners involved in the wildfire response. The safety and well-being of evacuees and staff remain the top priority.
The Jasper wildfire has been burning for over two weeks and has forced thousands of people to evacuate their homes. As of July 14th, the fire has burned over 8,000 hectares of land and is still not under control. The city of Calgary continues to monitor the situation closely and is prepared to provide further support if needed.
The shortened hours of the Jasper Wildfire Reception Centre are a necessary adjustment in response to the evolving situation. The city of Calgary remains committed to supporting evacuees and ensuring their safety during this challenging time.
