Jasper National Park, AB – The recent dramatic wildfire rescue in Jasper National Park has not deterred backcountry campers from continuing to explore the beautiful wilderness. Despite the harrowing experience, many campers still express their love for Jasper and their determination to continue camping in the backcountry.
On July 9th, a group of backcountry campers were stranded on the Skyline Trail due to a wildfire that had quickly spread in the area. The group was forced to take refuge on a nearby ridge, where they were eventually rescued by helicopter. The rescue operation was a success, with all campers safely brought to the ground.
Despite the intense situation, many campers are still drawn to the beauty and adventure of Jasper’s backcountry. One camper, Sarah Thompson, shared her love for the park, stating, “I’ve been coming to Jasper for years and I absolutely love it here. While the cause of the wildfire is still under investigation, Parks Canada has issued a fire ban in the area and urges all visitors to be cautious and follow all safety protocols.
