Woman seriously injured in head-on collision on Malahat highway

A woman has been left with serious injuries after a head-on collision on the Malahat Highway in British Columbia.

According to authorities, the incident occurred on Sunday afternoon near the summit of the highway, just north of Victoria. The woman was driving southbound when her vehicle collided with a northbound car.

Emergency crews were called to the scene and the woman was extracted from her vehicle. She was then transported to hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the other vehicle, a man, sustained minor injuries and was also taken to hospital for treatment.

The highway was closed for several hours as investigators worked to determine the cause of the collision. It has since been reopened.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage to come forward and assist with their investigation.

This is not the first serious collision to occur on the Malahat Highway, which is known for its winding roads and steep cliffs. In 2019, a multi-vehicle crash on the same stretch of highway resulted in one fatality and several injuries.

Authorities are reminding drivers to exercise caution and adhere to speed limits while driving on the Malahat Highway, especially during inclement weather conditions.

The investigation into this latest collision is ongoing and further updates will be provided as they become available.
