Edmonton Riverhawks earn spot in WCL playoffs for first time

The Edmonton Riverhawks have made history by earning a spot in the West Coast League (WCL) playoffs for the first time since the team’s inception in 2019.

The Riverhawks secured their spot in the playoffs after defeating the Victoria HarbourCats 6-3 on Sunday, July 25th. This win, combined with a loss by the Kelowna Falcons, solidified the Riverhawks’ spot in the playoffs.

The team’s success this season can be attributed to their strong performance on the field, as well as their determination and hard work. The Riverhawks currently hold a record of 27 wins and 18 losses, placing them in second place in the North Division.

Head coach, Mitch Schmidt, expressed his pride in the team’s accomplishment, stating, “It’s a great feeling to see our hard work pay off and to make it to the playoffs for the first time. We have a talented group of players who have shown great dedication and determination throughout the season.”

The Riverhawks’ success has also been recognized by the WCL, with several players receiving individual accolades. Pitcher, Jake Geis, was named the WCL Pitcher of the Week for the week of July 19th, while outfielder, Ryan Magdic, was named the WCL Player of the Week for the week of July 12th.
