The YMCA of Chatham-Kent has announced an exciting expansion to their annual “Run the Runway” event. This year, the event will not only include a 5K run, but also a 10K run and a 1K kids’ fun run.
The event, which takes place at the Chatham-Kent Municipal Airport, has been a popular community event for the past three years. Participants have the unique opportunity to run on the airport’s runway, providing a one-of-a-kind experience.
According to YMCA CEO, Kim MacDougall, the decision to expand the event was made in response to the growing interest and demand from the community. “We have seen a significant increase in participation over the years and we wanted to offer more options for our runners,” said MacDougall.
The 5K and 10K runs will take place on the airport’s runway, while the 1K kids’ fun run will take place on the airport’s taxiway. All three runs will be chip-timed, ensuring accurate results for participants.
In addition to the runs, there will also be a post-race celebration with food, music, and family-friendly activities. Participants will also receive a commemorative t-shirt and medal.
The event is not only a fun and unique experience for participants, but it also serves as a fundraiser for the YMCA’s Strong Kids Campaign. This campaign helps to provide financial assistance to individuals and families in need, allowing them to access YMCA programs and services.
Registration for the event is now open and can be done online or in person at the YMCA. Early bird registration fees are available until August 31st, with prices increasing after that date.
The expanded “Run the Runway” event is set to take place on September 29th, 2019. So lace up your running shoes and join in on the fun while supporting a great cause. For more information and to register, visit the YMCA of Chatham-Kent’s website.
