Hail storm cleanup event underway to help residents dispose of debris from last week’s storm

Residents of Calgary are still dealing with the aftermath of a severe hail storm that hit the city last week. In response, a cleanup event has been organized to assist residents in disposing of debris and damaged items.

The event, which is currently underway, is being held at the Calgary Soccer Centre and is open to all residents affected by the storm. It is a joint effort between the City of Calgary, Waste and Recycling Services, and the Calgary Emergency Management Agency.

According to the City of Calgary, the cleanup event is an opportunity for residents to safely dispose of any debris or damaged items that may have accumulated on their properties due to the storm. This includes items such as broken tree branches, damaged outdoor furniture, and other debris.

Residents are reminded to bring their proof of residency, such as a driver’s license or utility bill, in order to access the event. They are also advised to wear appropriate clothing and footwear for the cleanup.

The event is being held in compliance with all COVID-19 safety protocols, including physical distancing and mandatory mask-wearing. Residents are also asked to limit the number of people in their vehicles to ensure a smooth and safe process.

The cleanup event is just one of the many efforts being made by the City of Calgary to assist residents in recovering from the hail storm. The city has also set up a debris drop-off location at the East Calgary Landfill for those who are unable to attend the cleanup event.

The hail storm, which hit Calgary on June 13th, caused significant damage to homes, vehicles, and other property. The city has estimated that over 70,000 homes were affected by the storm, with some areas experiencing golf ball-sized hail.

Residents are encouraged to take advantage of the cleanup event and other resources provided by the city to help with the recovery process. The event will run until July 4th, giving residents ample time to dispose of any debris and damaged items.

The City of Calgary and its partners are committed to supporting residents during this difficult time and are working tirelessly to ensure a smooth and efficient cleanup process. For more information on the event and other resources available, residents can visit the City of Calgary’s website or contact 311.
