Kelowna, British Columbia – It has been 30 years since the tragic death of Mindy Tran, a young girl who captured the hearts of the community with her bravery and resilience. On Saturday, a memorial was held in her honor at the Kelowna City Park, where friends, family, and community members gathered to remember her life and legacy.

Mindy Tran was only 8 years old when she was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called neuroblastoma. Despite undergoing numerous treatments and surgeries, Mindy remained positive and determined to fight her illness. She became a symbol of hope and strength for many, inspiring people with her unwavering spirit.

Sadly, Mindy lost her battle with cancer on August 14, 1991. But her memory lives on through the Mindy Tran Foundation, which was established by her parents to support families with children battling cancer. The foundation provides financial assistance for medical treatments, travel expenses, and other necessary support for families in need.

At the memorial, Mindy’s parents, John and Linda Tran, shared their memories of their daughter and expressed their gratitude for the community’s support throughout their difficult journey. They also thanked the Mindy Tran Foundation for continuing their daughter’s legacy and helping other families in similar situations.

The event was also attended by Mayor Colin Basran, who spoke about the impact Mindy had on the community and how her legacy continues to inspire others. He also announced that the City of Kelowna will be renaming a section of the City Park in honor of Mindy Tran.
