Fedeli announces $450,000 for building repairs and upgrades to social service agencies

North Bay, ON – The Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade, Vic Fedeli, has announced a significant investment of $450,000 for building repairs and upgrades to social service agencies in the North Bay area.

The funding, provided through the Social Services Relief Fund, will support necessary repairs and upgrades to facilities that provide essential services to vulnerable individuals and families in the community.

Minister Fedeli emphasized the importance of these agencies in providing crucial support to those in need, especially during these challenging times. He stated, “Our government recognizes the vital role that social service agencies play in our communities, and we are committed to ensuring they have the necessary resources to continue their important work.”

The funding will be distributed among four agencies in the North Bay area, including the North Bay Recovery Home, the North Bay Food Bank, the North Bay Crisis Centre, and the North Bay Indian Friendship Centre. These agencies provide a range of services, such as addiction recovery programs, emergency shelter, food assistance, and cultural support for Indigenous individuals and families.

The North Bay Recovery Home will receive $200,000 for repairs and upgrades to their facility, which offers a safe and supportive environment for individuals recovering from addiction. The North Bay Food Bank will receive $100,000 to address necessary repairs and upgrades to their building, which provides food assistance to over 1,500 individuals each month.

The North Bay Crisis Centre, which offers emergency shelter and support services to women and children fleeing violence, will receive $100,000 for building repairs and upgrades. The North Bay Indian Friendship Centre, which provides cultural and social programs for Indigenous individuals and families, will receive $50,000 for necessary repairs and upgrades to their facility.

Executive Director of the North Bay Crisis Centre, Jessica Lefebvre, expressed her gratitude for the funding, stating, “This investment will allow us to continue providing a safe and supportive environment for women and children in need. We are grateful for the government’s support in ensuring our facility is well-maintained and able to meet the needs of our clients.”

The Social Services Relief Fund was established to support social service agencies in addressing the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. This investment in building repairs and upgrades will not only improve the safety and functionality of these facilities but also contribute to the overall well-being of the community.

Minister Fedeli concluded by reaffirming the government’s commitment to supporting social service agencies and the vulnerable individuals and families they serve. He stated, “We will continue to work closely with our community partners to ensure they have the necessary resources to provide essential services to those in need.”
