North Vancouver RCMP seek suspect accused of assaulting senior

North Vancouver RCMP are on the hunt for a suspect accused of assaulting a senior citizen.

According to police, the incident occurred on Monday afternoon at around 2:30 p.m. in the 200 block of West 1st Street. The victim, a 72-year-old man, was walking in the area when he was approached by an unknown man who allegedly punched him in the face.

The victim sustained minor injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment. He has since been released.

The suspect is described as a Caucasian man in his 30s, approximately 5’10” tall with a medium build and short dark hair. He was last seen wearing a black hoodie, black pants, and black shoes.

RCMP are asking anyone with information about the incident or the suspect’s whereabouts to come forward. They are also reminding the public to be aware of their surroundings and report any suspicious activity.

This is not the first time a senior citizen has been targeted in North Vancouver. In January, a 78-year-old woman was assaulted and robbed while walking in the area of Lonsdale Avenue and 15th Street.

Police are investigating whether the two incidents are connected.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the North Vancouver RCMP at 604-985-1311 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
