A suspect has been charged for allegedly smashing a woman’s windshield with an axe on Vancouver Island, according to police.
The incident occurred on July 6 in the 3000 block of Comox Road in Courtenay, BC. The victim, a 60-year-old woman, was driving her vehicle when she noticed a man walking in the middle of the road. As she slowed down to avoid hitting him, the man suddenly swung an axe at her windshield, causing significant damage.
The woman was able to drive away and call the police. The suspect fled the scene on foot, but was later located and arrested by the Comox Valley RCMP.
The suspect, a 33-year-old man from Courtenay, has been charged with mischief and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He has been released on conditions and is scheduled to appear in court on September 14.
The victim was not injured in the incident, but was understandably shaken by the ordeal. The motive for the attack is still under investigation.
