Another severe thunderstorm alert in effect for Montreal region

Montreal, QC – The Montreal region is once again under a severe thunderstorm alert, as Environment Canada has issued a warning for the area. This comes after a series of intense storms that have caused damage and power outages in the past few weeks.

According to the weather agency, the alert is in effect for the entire Montreal region, including Laval and Longueuil. The warning states that residents should be prepared for strong winds, heavy rain, and possible hail.

This latest alert is a result of a low-pressure system moving through the region, bringing with it unstable and humid air. This combination is expected to create severe thunderstorms, with the potential for damaging winds of up to 90 km/h and heavy rainfall of up to 50 mm in a short period of time.

Environment Canada is advising residents to take precautions and stay indoors if possible during the storm. If outside, it is important to seek shelter in a sturdy building or vehicle and avoid open areas, trees, and bodies of water.

The alert also warns of the potential for power outages and damage to buildings, as well as the possibility of flash floods in low-lying areas. Residents are advised to secure any loose objects and to stay away from downed power lines.

This is the second severe thunderstorm alert to be issued for the Montreal region in the past week. Last Friday, a similar warning was in effect, resulting in strong winds and heavy rain that caused damage and power outages in several areas.

Environment Canada will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary. Residents are encouraged to stay informed and follow any instructions from local authorities.

In the meantime, it is important for residents to stay safe and take precautions during this severe weather event. By being prepared and staying informed, we can all weather the storm together.
