'It's an honour': Scholarships awarded to students with parents who served in the Canadian Armed Forces

The Canadian Armed Forces have always been a source of pride and honor for our nation. And now, that pride extends to the children of those who have served. The “It’s an Honour” scholarship program has recently awarded scholarships to students whose parents have served in the Canadian Armed Forces.

The program, which is funded by the Canadian Forces Personnel and Family Support Services (CFPFSS), aims to recognize and support the sacrifices made by military families. This year, a total of 20 students from across Canada were selected to receive the scholarship, each receiving $4,000 towards their post-secondary education.

One of the recipients, 18-year-old Emily Smith, expressed her gratitude for the scholarship, stating that it will greatly help her pursue her dream of becoming a nurse. Her father, who served in the Canadian Armed Forces for 25 years, was equally proud of her achievement and the recognition of his service.

The “It’s an Honour” scholarship program was established in 2009 and has since awarded over $1 million in scholarships to more than 300 students. The program not only recognizes the sacrifices made by military families, but also aims to alleviate the financial burden of post-secondary education for these students.

In order to be eligible for the scholarship, students must have a parent who is currently serving or has served in the Canadian Armed Forces, and must be enrolled in a post-secondary institution. The selection process is based on academic achievement, community involvement, and a written essay on the impact of their parent’s service on their life.

The CFPFSS hopes that the “It’s an Honour” scholarship program will continue to support and inspire the children of military families to pursue their dreams and make a positive impact in their communities. As we honor and remember the sacrifices made by our brave men and women in uniform, let us also recognize and support their families who have stood by their side.
