Pedestrian injured in hit-and-run in Scarborough: police

A pedestrian was injured in a hit-and-run incident in Scarborough, according to police.

The incident occurred on Monday evening at the intersection of Lawrence Avenue East and Markham Road. The pedestrian, whose identity has not been released, was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene.

Emergency services were called to the scene and the pedestrian was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. The extent of their injuries is currently unknown.

Police are now searching for the driver of the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run. They have described the vehicle as a dark-coloured sedan, possibly a Honda Civic, with damage to the front end.

Investigators are also appealing to any witnesses or anyone with information about the incident to come forward. They are particularly interested in speaking with the driver of a white SUV that was seen in the area at the time of the incident.

The intersection was closed for several hours as police conducted their investigation, but has since reopened.

This is not the first hit-and-run incident to occur in Scarborough in recent months. In November, a 62-year-old woman was killed in a hit-and-run at the intersection of Midland Avenue and Sheppard Avenue East.

Police are reminding drivers to always remain at the scene of an accident and to contact authorities immediately if they are involved in a collision.

Anyone with information about the hit-and-run is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
