The Pacific National Exhibition (PNE) has officially announced the name of their new amphitheatre, set to open in 2022. The outdoor venue will be called the “West Coast Stage at Hastings Park,” paying homage to its location in Vancouver’s Hastings Park.
The name was chosen through a public naming contest, which received over 1,200 submissions. After careful consideration, the PNE selected “West Coast Stage” as it reflects the vibrant and diverse culture of the West Coast.
“We are thrilled to unveil the name of our new amphitheatre and we believe it truly captures the essence of our city and community,” said Shelley Frost, President and CEO of the PNE. “We received many creative and thoughtful submissions, but ‘West Coast Stage’ stood out as a perfect representation of the energy and spirit of the PNE and Hastings Park.”
The new amphitheatre will have a capacity of 7,000 and will feature state-of-the-art sound and lighting technology, making it a premier destination for concerts and events. It will also have a covered stage and seating area, allowing for year-round use.
The PNE has been a staple in the Vancouver community for over 110 years, hosting a variety of events and attractions, including the annual Fair at the PNE. The addition of the West Coast Stage at Hastings Park will further enhance the PNE’s offerings and solidify its position as a top entertainment destination in the city.
Construction on the amphitheatre is set to begin in the fall of 2021, with an expected completion date of spring 2022. The PNE is also working closely with local Indigenous communities to incorporate their culture and traditions into the design and programming of the new venue.
The PNE is excited to welcome the community to the West Coast Stage at Hastings Park and looks forward to creating unforgettable experiences for years to come. For more information and updates on the construction and opening of the amphitheatre, visit the PNE’s website.
