A pedestrian has been hospitalized after a hit-and-run incident in Scarborough, according to local authorities.
The incident occurred on Monday evening at the intersection of Lawrence Avenue East and Markham Road. The victim, a 45-year-old man, was crossing the street when he was struck by a vehicle. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene, leaving the victim with serious injuries.
Emergency services were called to the scene and the victim was rushed to a nearby hospital. He is currently in stable condition, but his injuries are said to be serious.
Police are now searching for the driver of the vehicle, described as a dark-colored sedan. They are asking anyone with information or dashcam footage of the incident to come forward.
The intersection was closed for several hours as police investigated the scene. It has since been reopened to traffic.
This is not the first hit-and-run incident to occur in Scarborough this year. In January, a 23-year-old woman was killed in a hit-and-run on Kingston Road. The driver in that incident was later arrested and charged with dangerous driving causing death.
Hit-and-run incidents are a serious concern for pedestrians and drivers alike. It is important for drivers to remain vigilant and obey traffic laws, and for pedestrians to use crosswalks and be aware of their surroundings.
