Lillooet ER to Remain Closed Until Tuesday

The emergency room at Lillooet Hospital will remain closed until Tuesday, according to Interior Health.

The closure, which began on Friday, is due to a lack of available nursing staff. This has left the hospital unable to provide safe and adequate care to patients.

Interior Health has stated that they are working to address the staffing shortage and are actively recruiting nurses to fill the gap. However, they have not provided a specific timeline for when the ER will reopen.

In the meantime, residents of Lillooet and surrounding areas are advised to seek emergency care at nearby hospitals in Kamloops or Merritt. Non-urgent health concerns can still be addressed at the Lillooet Health Centre.

This is not the first time the Lillooet ER has faced closure due to staffing issues. In 2019, the ER was closed for several days due to a similar shortage of nurses.

The ongoing closure has raised concerns among community members about the accessibility of emergency care in the area. Lillooet Mayor Marg Lampman has expressed her disappointment with the situation and is calling for a long-term solution to address the staffing challenges at the hospital.

Interior Health has assured the public that they are committed to finding a solution and ensuring the safety and well-being of patients. They have also stated that they will provide updates on the situation as they become available.

In the meantime, residents are advised to stay informed and seek alternative options for emergency care if needed.
