The Edmonton Elks dominated the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in a 47-22 road victory on Saturday night, thanks in large part to the impressive performance of running back James Rankin.
Rankin rushed for three touchdowns, showcasing his speed and agility as he powered through the Tiger-Cats’ defense. His impressive display of skill and determination helped lead the Elks to their second win of the season.
The game started off strong for the Elks, with quarterback Trevor Harris connecting with receiver Derel Walker for a 75-yard touchdown pass on the first play of the game. This set the tone for the rest of the night, as the Elks continued to dominate on both sides of the ball.
Rankin’s first touchdown came in the second quarter, as he broke through the Tiger-Cats’ defense for a 20-yard run. He followed it up with two more touchdowns in the third quarter, solidifying his place as a key player for the Elks.
But it wasn’t just Rankin who shone on the field. The Elks’ defense put on a strong performance, holding the Tiger-Cats to just one touchdown in the first half. Defensive back Jonathan Rose intercepted a pass from Tiger-Cats’ quarterback Jeremiah Masoli, adding to the Elks’ impressive defensive display.
The Tiger-Cats tried to mount a comeback in the fourth quarter, but the Elks’ offense proved to be too much for them to handle. Harris threw for 338 yards and two touchdowns, while receiver Greg Ellingson had a standout game with 10 catches for 170 yards.
The Elks’ victory was a team effort, with contributions from both the offense and defense. Head coach Jaime Elizondo praised his team’s performance, stating, “We played a complete game tonight. Our offense was firing on all cylinders and our defense was able to shut down a strong Tiger-Cats’ offense.”
The Elks will look to continue their winning streak as they face the Ottawa Redblacks next week. With their strong performance against the Tiger-Cats, the Elks have proven that they are a force to be reckoned with in the Canadian Football League.
