TORONTO – Commuters and residents in downtown Toronto will need to plan their routes accordingly this week as a major intersection will be closed for construction.

The intersection of Yonge Street and Bloor Street will be closed from Monday, May 10 at 7 a.m. until Friday, May 14 at 11 p.m. for necessary construction work.

According to the City of Toronto, the closure is required for the installation of a new watermain and other infrastructure improvements.

During the closure, no through traffic will be allowed on Yonge Street between Charles Street and Hayden Street, and on Bloor Street between Church Street and Bay Street. Local access will be maintained for businesses and residents within the closure area.

The city is advising drivers to use alternate routes and to expect delays in the area. Pedestrians will still be able to access the area, but are advised to use caution and follow posted signs.

TTC service will also be affected by the closure. The 97 Yonge bus will be diverted via Church Street, while the 320 Yonge bus will be diverted via Bay Street. The 6 Bay bus will also be diverted via Church Street.

The city is reminding drivers to slow down and obey all posted signs and signals in construction zones for the safety of workers and other road users.
