Edmonton Elks’ Leake Relishing His Return to Running Back Position
After a year of uncertainty and change, Edmonton Elks’ running back, Terry Leake, is back in his comfort zone. The 26-year-old athlete has been given the opportunity to return to his natural position, and he is determined to make the most of it.
Leake, who joined the Elks in 2019 as a wide receiver, was asked to switch to running back last season due to injuries on the team. Despite being unfamiliar with the position, he stepped up and performed admirably, rushing for 300 yards and scoring two touchdowns in just six games.
However, with the return of starting running back James Wilder Jr. this season, Leake was once again faced with the possibility of being moved back to wide receiver. But to his delight, the Elks’ coaching staff decided to keep him at running back, a decision that Leake is grateful for.
“I’m just happy to be back at my natural position,” Leake said in an interview with CTV News. “I feel like I can contribute more to the team as a running back, and I’m excited to see what I can do this season.”
Leake’s return to running back has been met with praise from his teammates and coaches, who have noticed his dedication and hard work during training camp. Head coach Jaime Elizondo has been particularly impressed with Leake’s versatility and ability to make plays both on the ground and through the air.
“He’s a dynamic player,” Elizondo said. “He’s got great hands, he’s got great speed, and he’s got great vision. He’s a guy that can do a lot of different things for us.”
