Inmate found dead in his cell at the Saskatoon Correctional Centre

Tragedy struck at the Saskatoon Correctional Centre as an inmate was found dead in his cell on Tuesday morning.

According to officials, the inmate, whose identity has not been released, was discovered unresponsive by correctional staff during a routine check. Despite immediate efforts to revive him, the inmate was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Saskatoon Police Service and the Office of the Chief Coroner have been notified and are conducting investigations into the cause of death. The Ministry of Corrections and Policing has also launched an internal review.

The Saskatoon Correctional Centre is a maximum-security facility that houses both male and female inmates. It is designed to provide safe and secure custody for those awaiting trial or serving sentences of up to two years less a day.

This is not the first time that the Saskatoon Correctional Centre has faced scrutiny. In 2019, an inmate died by suicide in his cell, prompting calls for better mental health support for inmates.

The death of the inmate has raised concerns about the conditions and treatment of inmates within the facility. The Ministry of Corrections and Policing has stated that they are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all inmates and will take necessary steps to address any issues that may arise.

The loss of a life is always a tragedy, and our thoughts go out to the family and friends of the deceased inmate. As the investigations continue, we hope that answers will be found and measures will be taken to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
