Warrant issued for suspect in spring shooting death: Winnipeg police

A warrant has been issued for a suspect in connection with a shooting that occurred in the spring, resulting in the death of a man in Winnipeg, according to the Winnipeg Police Service.

The incident took place on April 15, 2021, in the 500 block of Selkirk Avenue. Police were called to the scene around 9:30 p.m. and found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition and later succumbed to his injuries.

After an investigation by the Homicide Unit, a warrant has been issued for 25-year-old Darnell Jesse Moneyas. He is wanted for second-degree murder and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Moneyas is described as 5’10” tall, weighing approximately 160 pounds, with a medium build, black hair, and brown eyes. He is known to frequent the North End of Winnipeg.

Police are urging anyone with information on Moneyas’ whereabouts to contact them immediately. They are also reminding the public not to approach him as he is considered armed and dangerous.

This is not the first time Moneyas has been wanted by police. In 2019, he was charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of a 20-year-old man, but the charges were later dropped.

The Winnipeg Police Service is asking anyone with information on this case to contact the Homicide Unit at 204-986-6508 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
