Winnipeg Police issue Silver Alert for missing man

The Winnipeg Police Service has issued a Silver Alert for a missing man in the city.

According to police, 72-year-old John Smith was last seen on Tuesday afternoon in the area of Portage Avenue and Main Street. He was reported missing by his family on Wednesday morning.

Smith is described as 5’8″ tall, with a medium build and short grey hair. He was last seen wearing a black jacket, blue jeans, and black shoes.

Police say Smith suffers from dementia and may be disoriented. They are concerned for his well-being and are asking for the public’s help in locating him.

The Silver Alert program was launched in Winnipeg in 2019 and is designed to help locate missing seniors with cognitive impairments. It is similar to an Amber Alert, but specifically for seniors.

Anyone with information on Smith’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Winnipeg Police Service at 204-986-6222.
