Sunday bear attack in Rocky View County leaves one person hospitalized

A peaceful Sunday afternoon in Rocky View County turned into a terrifying ordeal for one person who was attacked by a bear.

According to officials, the incident occurred on Sunday afternoon in the area of Township Road 262 and Range Road 40. The victim, whose identity has not been released, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The bear, believed to be a grizzly, was later located and killed by wildlife officers. It is unclear at this time what provoked the attack.

The Alberta Fish and Wildlife Enforcement Branch is currently investigating the incident and is reminding residents to be cautious when in bear country. They advise people to carry bear spray, make noise while hiking, and to never approach or feed a bear.

This is not the first bear attack in the area. In 2018, a woman was killed by a grizzly bear while hiking in Canmore. The incident sparked a debate about bear safety and the responsibility of hikers to take precautions.

Officials are urging residents to be vigilant and to report any bear sightings or encounters to the Fish and Wildlife Enforcement Branch.

As for the victim of Sunday’s attack, their current condition is unknown. Our thoughts are with them and their loved ones during this difficult time.
