Free tire collection event at Okanagan College in Kelowna

Kelowna residents, mark your calendars! A free tire collection event will be taking place at Okanagan College in Kelowna on Saturday, September 18th.

The event, organized by the Regional District of Central Okanagan (RDCO), aims to provide an opportunity for residents to dispose of their old tires in an environmentally-friendly manner. This initiative is part of the RDCO’s ongoing efforts to reduce waste and promote sustainable practices in the community.

According to the RDCO, tires can be a major source of pollution if not disposed of properly. When left in landfills, they can release harmful chemicals into the environment and contaminate soil and water sources. By participating in this event, residents can help prevent this potential harm and contribute to a cleaner and healthier community.

The event will run from 10 am to 3 pm at the Okanagan College parking lot on KLO Road. Residents are encouraged to bring up to four tires per vehicle, with or without rims, for free disposal. However, commercial and industrial tires will not be accepted.

In addition to tire disposal, the event will also feature educational displays and information on proper tire maintenance and recycling. Attendees can also learn about other waste reduction initiatives and resources available in the community.

The RDCO is reminding residents that tires should never be burned, dumped, or left on the side of the road. Instead, they should be taken to designated collection events or tire retailers for proper disposal.

So, if you have old tires lying around, don’t miss this opportunity to dispose of them responsibly and contribute to a cleaner and greener Kelowna. Let’s work together to make a positive impact on our environment. See you at the Okanagan College on September 18th!
