A man wielding a machete was arrested in Nanaimo after crashing a stolen car, according to the RCMP.
The incident occurred on Monday afternoon when police received reports of a man driving erratically in a stolen vehicle. The vehicle was spotted by an off-duty officer who followed it until it crashed into a ditch.
The driver, who was armed with a machete, attempted to flee the scene on foot but was quickly apprehended by the officer and other responding units.
The 33-year-old man, who has not been identified, is facing multiple charges including possession of stolen property, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
The RCMP is reminding the public to always report suspicious or criminal activity to the police and to never attempt to confront or apprehend a suspect on their own.
