Former BCU Kelowna, Lake Country, and Coldstream candidate, Jayden Smith, has remained tight-lipped about his next steps after losing the recent election.
Smith, who ran as an independent candidate, was defeated by incumbent MLA, Sarah Johnson, in the provincial election on October 24th. Despite his loss, Smith has not revealed any plans for his future in politics.
In an interview with Castanet News, Smith stated that he is taking some time to reflect on the election and is not ready to make any announcements about his next move. He also expressed his gratitude to the community for their support and for giving him the opportunity to run for office.
Smith’s campaign focused on issues such as affordable housing, mental health, and climate change. He received over 2,000 votes in the election, but it was not enough to secure a seat in the legislature.
While Smith has not disclosed his future plans, he did mention that he will continue to be involved in the community and advocate for the issues he is passionate about.
In the meantime, Johnson has been re-elected as the MLA for Kelowna-Lake Country, winning by a significant margin. She has expressed her excitement to continue serving her community and working towards addressing the challenges faced by the region.
The provincial election saw a record-breaking number of mail-in ballots due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The final results are expected to be announced on November 6th.
As for Smith, his supporters and the community will have to wait and see what his next steps will be. But one thing is for sure, he has left a mark on the political landscape of Kelowna, Lake Country, and Coldstream, and his voice will continue to be heard.
