An Edmonton man is facing child pornography charges following a cross-border investigation, according to authorities.
The investigation was launched after an alert from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) in the United States. The alert stated that a user in Edmonton was uploading and sharing child sexual abuse material.
The Edmonton Police Service’s Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) unit worked with the NCMEC and the United States Department of Homeland Security to identify the suspect and gather evidence.
As a result, a 33-year-old man from Edmonton was arrested and charged with possession, distribution, and accessing child pornography. He is scheduled to appear in court on February 25.
The ICE unit is reminding the public to report any suspicious online activity involving child exploitation to the NCMEC’s CyberTipline at 1-800-843-5678 or to local law enforcement.
This case serves as a reminder of the importance of international cooperation in combating child sexual abuse and exploitation. The Edmonton Police Service is committed to working with its partners to protect children and bring offenders to justice.
