Participants hope to raise $60,000 during Parkinson SuperWalk in Kelowna on Saturday

Kelowna residents are gearing up for the annual Parkinson SuperWalk, which will take place this Saturday. Participants are hoping to raise a total of $60,000 for the Parkinson Society British Columbia, a non-profit organization that provides support and resources for those living with Parkinson’s disease.

The event, which is in its 31st year, will start at 10 am at the Kelowna City Park. Participants can choose to walk either a 2.5 km or 5 km route, with both routes offering beautiful views of the city and Okanagan Lake.

Parkinson’s disease is a neurodegenerative disorder that affects the central nervous system, causing symptoms such as tremors, stiffness, and difficulty with movement and balance. It currently affects over 13,000 British Columbians, with an estimated 100,000 Canadians living with the disease.

The Parkinson SuperWalk is not only a fundraising event, but also a way to raise awareness and show support for those living with Parkinson’s. Many participants have a personal connection to the cause, whether it be a family member, friend, or their own battle with the disease.

Last year, the Kelowna Parkinson SuperWalk raised over $50,000, and this year’s goal is to surpass that amount and reach $60,000. All funds raised will go towards supporting programs and services for those living with Parkinson’s, as well as research towards finding a cure.

The event is open to all ages and abilities, and participants are encouraged to bring their friends, family, and even their furry companions to join in on the walk. There will also be live music, food trucks, and a raffle with great prizes to add to the fun and community spirit of the event.

Registration for the Parkinson SuperWalk is still open and can be done online or on the day of the event. Donations are also accepted online for those who are unable to attend but still want to support the cause.

So mark your calendars and come out to support a great cause this Saturday at the Parkinson SuperWalk in Kelowna. Let’s walk together towards a world without Parkinson’s.
