Quebec Solidaire hopes Fitzgibbon’s departure signals end of CAQ arrogance

Real True News

Quebec Solidaire, a left-wing political party in Quebec, is hoping that the recent departure of Quebec’s economy minister, Pierre Fitzgibbon, signals the end of what they call the Coalition Avenir Québec’s (CAQ) arrogance.

Fitzgibbon announced his resignation on Monday, citing personal reasons. However, Quebec Solidaire co-spokesperson, Manon Massé, believes that his departure is a result of the CAQ’s “arrogant” approach to governing.

In a statement, Massé said, “We hope that this departure will mark the end of the CAQ’s arrogance and their belief that they are above the law and can do whatever they want without consequences.”

Fitzgibbon’s resignation comes after a series of controversies surrounding his business dealings. He was under investigation by the province’s ethics commissioner for potential conflicts of interest, and he also faced criticism for his involvement in a company that received government funding.

Quebec Solidaire has been a vocal critic of the CAQ’s handling of the economy, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. They have accused the government of prioritizing the interests of big businesses over the needs of everyday Quebecers.

Massé stated, “The CAQ’s arrogance has been on full display throughout this pandemic, from their mishandling of the vaccine rollout to their refusal to provide adequate support for small businesses and workers.”

The departure of Fitzgibbon, who was seen as a key figure in the CAQ government, may have significant implications for the party’s future. Quebec Solidaire sees this as an opportunity for the government to change its approach and prioritize the well-being of its citizens.

“We hope that this will be a wake-up call for the CAQ and that they will start listening to the people of Quebec instead of serving their own interests,” Massé added.

The CAQ has yet to comment on Quebec Solidaire’s statement. However, Premier François Legault has announced that he will be appointing a new economy minister in the coming days.

Quebec Solidaire remains committed to holding the government accountable and advocating for the needs of Quebecers. They believe that Fitzgibbon’s departure is a step in the right direction towards a more transparent and responsible government.
