B.C. posts highest COVID-19 hospitalizations since January in latest monthly update

British Columbia has recently released its latest monthly update on COVID-19, and the numbers are concerning. According to the report, the province has seen its highest number of hospitalizations due to the virus since January.

The update, released by the BC Centre for Disease Control, shows that there were 409 people hospitalized with COVID-19 in the month of June. This is a significant increase from the previous month, where there were 217 hospitalizations.

In addition, the report also revealed that there were 47 people in intensive care units (ICUs) due to COVID-19 in June. This is the highest number of ICU admissions since February.

These numbers are a stark reminder that the pandemic is far from over and that the virus is still a threat to our communities. Despite the progress made with vaccinations, it is clear that we must remain vigilant in our efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The report also highlighted that the majority of hospitalizations and ICU admissions were among unvaccinated individuals. This further emphasizes the importance of getting vaccinated to protect ourselves and those around us.

Dr. Bonnie Henry, BC’s provincial health officer, urged people to continue following public health guidelines and to get vaccinated. She stated, “We are seeing the consequences of not being vaccinated, and it is important for everyone to do their part in stopping the spread of this virus.”

The BC government has also announced that it will be closely monitoring the situation and will take necessary actions to prevent further spread of the virus. This includes increasing testing and contact tracing efforts, as well as implementing targeted measures in areas with high case numbers.

As we navigate through this challenging time, it is crucial that we all do our part to keep ourselves and our communities safe. This includes getting vaccinated, following public health guidelines, and staying informed about the latest updates on COVID-19. Let us continue to work together to overcome this pandemic.
