Merritt, B.C. – The police have released new details in the ongoing investigation of a fatal hit-and-run incident that occurred in Merritt, B.C.
According to the RCMP, the incident took place on December 27, 2020, at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Highway 5A near the intersection of Midday Valley Road. The victim, identified as 35-year-old Merritt resident, John Doe, was struck by a vehicle while walking along the highway. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The initial investigation revealed that the vehicle involved was a dark-colored pickup truck, possibly a Ford F-150, with a canopy and a roof rack. The truck was last seen heading southbound on Highway 5A towards the town of Princeton.
After extensive investigation and gathering of evidence, the police have now identified a person of interest in the case. The individual, whose identity has not been disclosed, is believed to have been driving the pickup truck at the time of the incident.
The RCMP is appealing to the public for any information that may assist in the investigation. They are specifically looking for any witnesses who may have seen the dark-colored pickup truck on the night of the incident or have any information about its whereabouts.
Sergeant Janelle Shoihet, spokesperson for the RCMP, stated, “We are urging anyone with information, no matter how small or insignificant it may seem, to come forward and speak with our investigators. Every piece of information is crucial in helping us solve this case and bring closure to the victim’s family.”
The police have also released a photo of a similar-looking truck, hoping that it may jog the memory of potential witnesses.
