A man has been injured in a multi-vehicle collision in the Cochrane area, according to local authorities.
The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon at the intersection of Highway 22 and Highway 1A. Emergency crews were called to the scene at around 2:30 p.m.
According to the RCMP, a pickup truck was travelling eastbound on Highway 1A when it collided with a westbound SUV. The impact caused the SUV to spin out of control and hit a third vehicle, a sedan, that was stopped at the intersection.
The driver of the SUV, a 35-year-old man, sustained serious injuries and was transported to hospital by STARS air ambulance. The driver of the pickup truck and the occupants of the sedan were not injured.
The cause of the collision is still under investigation, but police say that road conditions may have been a factor. The area was experiencing heavy snowfall at the time of the incident.
Traffic in the area was diverted for several hours as crews worked to clear the scene and investigate the cause of the collision. All roads have since been reopened.
The RCMP is reminding drivers to exercise caution and adjust their driving to the weather conditions. They also urge drivers to always wear their seatbelts and to avoid distractions while behind the wheel.
Anyone who may have witnessed the collision is asked to contact the Cochrane RCMP detachment.
