Calgary water consumption increases slightly Friday as high temperatures drive up demand

Calgary, AB – As temperatures continue to soar in Calgary, so does the demand for water. On Friday, the city saw a slight increase in water consumption as residents tried to beat the heat.

According to the City of Calgary, the average water consumption on Friday was 1.4 billion litres, which is a 3.5% increase from the previous day. This is also higher than the average daily consumption of 1.2 billion litres.

The high temperatures, reaching up to 33 degrees Celsius, have led to an increase in outdoor activities and water usage. The City of Calgary has reminded residents to be mindful of their water usage and to conserve whenever possible.

“We understand that during hot weather, people tend to use more water for activities such as watering lawns and gardens, filling pools, and washing cars,” said Chris Huston, Manager of Water Services for the City of Calgary. “However, we encourage residents to be mindful of their water usage and to only use what is necessary.”

The City of Calgary has also implemented a tiered water rate system, where the more water a household uses, the higher the rate they will be charged. This is to encourage residents to conserve water and to be more mindful of their usage.

In addition to the increase in water consumption, the City of Calgary has also seen a rise in water main breaks due to the extreme heat. As a result, the city has increased its water main repair crews to address any issues that may arise.

The City of Calgary has also reminded residents to stay hydrated and to take precautions to stay safe during the hot weather. This includes drinking plenty of water, wearing sunscreen, and seeking shade when outdoors.

As the heatwave continues, the City of Calgary will continue to monitor water consumption and take necessary measures to ensure a steady supply of water for its residents.
