United Way Calgary and its partners have launched a new campaign to support individuals and families in need. The campaign, titled “Providing the Basics,” aims to provide essential resources and services to those who are struggling in the community.
The initiative was officially kicked off on Monday, with a virtual event featuring United Way Calgary CEO Karen Young and representatives from partner organizations. The event highlighted the importance of coming together as a community to support those who are facing challenges, especially during these unprecedented times.
According to Young, the campaign is focused on addressing the basic needs of individuals and families, such as food, shelter, and mental health support. She emphasized that these needs are often overlooked, but are crucial for individuals to thrive and reach their full potential.
The campaign will run until December 31st and aims to raise $55 million. The funds will be distributed to various partner organizations, including the Calgary Food Bank, the Mustard Seed, and the Distress Centre, to name a few. These organizations will use the funds to provide essential services and resources to those in need.
In addition to monetary donations, the campaign also encourages individuals to volunteer their time and skills to support the cause. Young stated that volunteers play a crucial role in making a positive impact in the community and urged people to get involved in any way they can.
The “Providing the Basics” campaign comes at a critical time, as the COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated the challenges faced by vulnerable individuals and families. The United Way and its partners are determined to make a difference and provide much-needed support to those who need it the most.
