Calgary Stampeders sign linebacker Dan Basambombo

The Calgary Stampeders have made a significant addition to their roster, signing linebacker Dan Basambombo.

Basambombo, a 6-foot-2, 230-pound native of Montreal, joins the Stampeders after spending the past two seasons with the Ottawa Redblacks. He was originally drafted by the Redblacks in the fourth round of the 2019 CFL Draft.

In his two seasons with Ottawa, Basambombo appeared in 27 games, recording 24 tackles and one sack. He also contributed on special teams, making six tackles.

Stampeders president and general manager John Hufnagel expressed his excitement about adding Basambombo to the team.

“Dan is a young, athletic linebacker who has shown great potential in his first two seasons in the league,” said Hufnagel. “We believe he has the skill set to be a valuable contributor on our defense and special teams.”

Basambombo played college football at the University of Sherbrooke, where he was a standout on defense. In his final season, he recorded 41 tackles, three sacks, and one interception, earning him a spot on the RSEQ all-star team.

The 25-year-old linebacker also has experience playing for the Canadian national team, representing his country at the 2018 International Bowl.

Basambombo is looking forward to joining the Stampeders and contributing to their success.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to play for such a prestigious organization like the Calgary Stampeders,” said Basambombo. “I’m excited to get to work and help the team in any way I can.”

The Stampeders are currently preparing for the upcoming CFL season, which is set to begin in August. With the addition of Basambombo, they are looking to build on their success from previous years and compete for the Grey Cup once again.
