Canadian tennis stars Denis Shapovalov and Felix Auger-Aliassime led their team to a 3-0 victory over Finland in the Davis Cup tie on Friday.

The duo, who are both ranked in the top 20 in the world, dominated their opponents in the singles matches, securing Canada’s spot in the Davis Cup Finals in Madrid next month.

Shapovalov, currently ranked 14th, defeated Finland’s Emil Ruusuvuori in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-2. The 22-year-old showcased his powerful serve and aggressive play, leaving his opponent struggling to keep up.

Auger-Aliassime, ranked 19th, also had a strong performance, defeating Finland’s Otto Virtanen 6-3, 6-2. The 21-year-old displayed his impressive speed and precision on the court, earning Canada its second point of the tie.

In the doubles match, Shapovalov and Auger-Aliassime teamed up to face Finland’s Harri Heliovaara and Patrik Niklas-Salminen. The Canadian duo continued their dominance, winning the match 6-3, 6-4 and securing Canada’s victory in the tie.

This win marks Canada’s third consecutive appearance in the Davis Cup Finals, a feat that has not been achieved since the 1990s. The team will now head to Madrid in November to compete against 17 other countries for the Davis Cup title.

Canada’s captain, Frank Dancevic, praised Shapovalov and Auger-Aliassime for their outstanding performance and leadership on the court. He also expressed his confidence in the team’s ability to compete in the upcoming finals.
