A fugitive who was wanted in connection with a murder in Rocky View County has been arrested, according to authorities.
The suspect, whose identity has not been released, was taken into custody on Wednesday evening by the Calgary Police Service’s Tactical Unit.
The arrest comes after a lengthy investigation into the murder of a man in Rocky View County on December 15, 2020. The victim, identified as 35-year-old Michael William Dick, was found dead in a rural area near Highway 22 and Highway 8.
The suspect was identified as a person of interest early on in the investigation and a warrant for their arrest was issued on January 6, 2021.
The Calgary Police Service worked closely with the RCMP and other law enforcement agencies to locate and apprehend the suspect.
“We are grateful for the collaboration and support of our partners in this investigation,” said Staff Sergeant Martin Schiavetta of the Calgary Police Service’s Homicide Unit. “Their assistance was crucial in bringing this individual into custody.”
The suspect is facing charges of first-degree murder and is scheduled to appear in court on Friday, January 15, 2021.
The investigation into the murder is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact the Calgary Police Service or Crime Stoppers.
