Driver in York Region caught going more than 100 km/h in school zone

A driver in York Region has been caught going more than 100 km/h in a school zone, according to local authorities.

The incident occurred on Tuesday morning, when a police officer conducting speed enforcement in the area of Bayview Avenue and Major Mackenzie Drive East observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed.

Upon further investigation, it was determined that the driver was travelling at a speed of 104 km/h in a 40 km/h school zone.

The driver, who has not been identified, was immediately pulled over and issued a ticket for stunt driving. This violation carries a fine of up to $10,000, a license suspension of up to two years, and six demerit points.

York Regional Police are reminding drivers to always obey posted speed limits, especially in school zones where the safety of children is of utmost importance.

“Speeding in a school zone is not only illegal, but it puts the lives of innocent children at risk,” said Sgt. Andy Pattenden in a statement. “We urge all drivers to slow down and pay attention when driving near schools.”

This incident serves as a reminder for all drivers to be mindful of their speed and to always follow traffic laws, especially in areas where children may be present. The safety of our community, particularly our children, should always be a top priority.
