The incident occurred on Tuesday evening, when the officer responded to a call about a disturbance at a residence in the city’s downtown area. Upon arrival, the officer was allegedly attacked by the 6’5″ man, who was wielding a knife.
The officer was able to defend himself and subdue the suspect, who was then taken into custody. The officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was treated at a local hospital.
The suspect, who has been identified as 32-year-old John Smith, is facing charges of assault with a weapon and assaulting a police officer. He is currently in police custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.
According to friends and acquaintances, Smith was known as a kind and gentle person, and the news of his alleged involvement in this incident has shocked the community.
