Toronto police charge man who allegedly fired back at homicide suspects during shootout

Toronto Police have charged a man who allegedly fired back at homicide suspects during a shootout in the city’s east end.

According to police, the incident occurred on December 19, 2020, when officers responded to reports of gunshots in the area of Danforth Avenue and Coxwell Avenue. Upon arrival, they found a man suffering from gunshot wounds and immediately began life-saving measures. The victim, identified as 27-year-old Jaiden Jackson, was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

During the investigation, police learned that Jackson was involved in a shootout with two suspects who were fleeing the scene of a homicide that occurred earlier that day. The suspects, identified as 21-year-old Javon Martin and 20-year-old Tyronne Noseworthy, were both arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with the earlier homicide.

However, police have now charged a third individual in connection with the shootout. 25-year-old Dwayne Campbell has been charged with attempted murder, discharging a firearm with intent, and possession of a firearm while prohibited.

Police allege that Campbell was the individual who fired back at the suspects during the shootout. He was arrested on January 6, 2021, and is scheduled to appear in court on January 7.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing and anyone with information is urged to contact police or Crime Stoppers anonymously.

This incident serves as a reminder of the dangers that come with gun violence and the importance of cooperation with law enforcement in solving these crimes. The Toronto Police Service is committed to keeping our communities safe and will continue to work tirelessly to bring those responsible for these senseless acts of violence to justice.
