2 killed in early morning crash near Thorsby

Two people have tragically lost their lives in a fatal car crash that occurred early this morning near Thorsby, according to authorities.

The incident took place on Highway 39, just east of Range Road 14, at approximately 4:30 a.m. The two vehicles involved were a pickup truck and a car.

The driver of the car, a 25-year-old man, and his passenger, a 23-year-old woman, were both pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the pickup truck, a 35-year-old man, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, but police have confirmed that alcohol and speed are believed to be factors.

The identities of the victims have not been released pending notification of next of kin.

Highway 39 was closed for several hours as police investigated the scene and cleared the wreckage. It has since been reopened to traffic.
