Traffic services investigating after woman struck by GO train at Long Branch Station

A woman was struck by a GO train at Long Branch Station on Monday evening, prompting an investigation by Toronto’s Traffic Services.

According to witnesses, the incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. when the woman was walking on the tracks and was hit by a westbound GO train. Emergency services were immediately called to the scene and the woman was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.

The GO train service was temporarily suspended between Port Credit and Mimico stations as police and emergency crews responded to the incident. The service resumed around 8:30 p.m. after the tracks were cleared.

The identity of the woman has not been released and it is unclear why she was on the tracks. Toronto Police are urging anyone with information to come forward and assist with the investigation.

This is not the first time a pedestrian has been struck by a train at Long Branch Station. In 2018, a man was fatally struck by a GO train while walking on the tracks. The incident sparked a safety review by Metrolinx, the agency responsible for GO Transit.

In a statement, Metrolinx spokesperson Anne Marie Aikins expressed their condolences to the victim and their family and emphasized the importance of safety around train tracks.

“Our thoughts are with the individual who was struck by a GO train at Long Branch Station. We urge everyone to stay off the tracks and use designated crossings to ensure their safety,” Aikins said.

The investigation into Monday’s incident is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact Toronto Police or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
